Flashback: The Sony Xperia X series left us feeling like something was missing February 23, 2022by Martin 6 Sony's iconic Xperia Z line has garnered quite a loyal following in its time and has had some influential members in its ranks. However, in February 2016, the series suddenly ended with the arrival of the Xperia X series . Sony didn't completely move away from the flagships, but the new models definitely had a different feel to them than the Z5 series (which includes the important points of being the first phone with a 4K screen ). Let's look at the original trio. SONY Xperia X Performance SONY Xperia X Performance The SONY Xperia X Performance led the pack with the Snapdragon 820 chipset, a much-needed upgrade over the disastrous Snapdragon 810 used by the Z5 and Z5 Premium.
However, Sony kept the RAM capacity at 3 GB, while the C Level Executive List competition from Samsung, LG, HTC and others moved to 4 GB. Also, the Galaxy S7, LG G5 and HTC 10 all had 1440p panels. That's not all, the main camera used a 23MP sensor, but it lost the ability to passively record 4K video (although the chipset, like the Z5's camera, was capable). Sony Xperia X Performance had a small 5.0
The body of the phone was still IP68 dust and water resistant, but the milled aluminum frame was replaced with a cheaper plastic frame. The aluminum back helped retain some of the premium feel, but something definitely felt off. Either Sony was saving its true flagship for a later release, or the company agreed to a mid-afternoon effort. Seeing as no real Premium model came that year, it was probably the last. The SONY Xperia X was the mass market variant and it was definitely a mid-ranger. However, it had the same 5.0-inch 1080p IPS LCD as the X Performance, the same 23MP camera, and basically the same battery (80 mAh give or take). Does it make X look good or X Performance look bad?
